Tumor Mutation Burden (TMB) Panel

The Tumor Mutation Burden Panel is a test performed to measure the number of genetic mutations present in cancer cells.

What is the Tumor Mutation Burden (TMB) Panel?

The Tumor Mutation Burden analysis performed at our center is based on a panel consisting of more than 600 genes. This panel is analyzed using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology and includes cancer-associated SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms), copy number variations (CNVs), and gene fusions. Within this panel, both Tumor Mutation Burden and MSI analyses are performed. Our reports provide guidance on drug selection based on the variants detected in the patient, as well as additional pharmacogenetic information such as drug resistance, sensitivity, and toxicity. In addition to targeted therapy selection, sensitivity, resistance, and side-effect evaluations for chemotherapeutic agents are also performed.

The Tumor Mutation Burden (TMB) test is used to measure the number of genetic mutations present in cancer cells. A higher number of genetic mutations in cancer cells is associated with increased recognition by the immune system, which may result in a better response to immunotherapy treatments.

MSI (Microsatellite Instability) testing is a genetic test used to detect alterations in repetitive microsatellite regions of DNA that arise due to defects in DNA repair mechanisms. MSI is most commonly associated with certain cancer types such as colorectal cancer, but results obtained in many other cancers can also influence treatment decisions. Defects in DNA repair mechanisms can trigger genetic changes in DNA that are necessary for the growth and division of cancer cells.

Personalized medicine: The identification of genetic variants through comprehensive panels plays an increasingly important role in treatment selection for cancer and many other diseases. This personalized approach helps reduce the risk of side effects while improving treatment success rates.
