International organizations recommend familial cancer screening for individuals with a recurrent history of cancer in their family.
Familial Cancer Genetic Risk Assessment Package
Approximately 15% of individuals diagnosed with cancer have familial cancer. Treatment algorithms and preventive measures differ in familial cancers. Other family members are also at risk. Therefore, establishing a diagnosis of familial cancer is crucial both to guide treatment and to protect other family members. All individuals diagnosed with cancer—whether currently under treatment or with a past history—should undergo these tests. In addition, individuals with a family history of cancer should consider these tests to reduce their own cancer risk.
